  The myth busting page

And then there is still the argument by jealous people   saying that Indian casino's pay no taxes. Well, thing is that   Indian reservations are supposed to be "sovereign" nations   nowadays, so isn't that just a little inconsistent by those   who claim that Indian reservations are sovereign nations?   Will the US ever tax Canada? Or Mexico? Belgium perhaps?   Italy? China? Yes, they are on American soil but did Italy   ever tax the Vatican? Vatican City, unlike Indian   reservations, is an internationally recognized sovereign   state having a wealth estimated at about $15 billion.

Indians had taken everything from them so far, their land, their dignity   where sacred sites are not respected (not even today), most of them   are not at all not well off, and yet some jealous people claim that it not   fair that they don't pay any taxes or as California governor Arnold   Schwartzenegger likes to put it "pay their fair share" (25% no less!). Yet,   many non-Indians like to seize to opportunity to cash in the tax exempt   states while not even a tribal member or even living within the   boundaries of such reservations. People like Kevin Costner who owns   several casino's in South Dakota and was even willing to temprarily   become a lakota tribal member for this purpose. His latest acquisition   being a casino called The Dunbar, a last slap in the face of the Lakota   people who not only had their sacred Black Hills desecrated by this but   also that is tribe has zero benefit from his enterprises, while you think   that they should be able to charge tax on him as a non-Lakota

So that's how "sovereign" the Indian nations really are today. And   how can any land given in trust be sovereign anyway? The former   concentration camps are now free game to non-Indian businessmen   who want to profit from the benefits. Main difference between   people like Costner and the real Indian casino's is that Indian   casino's are bound by law to spend a certain percentage on their   own tribe. They're still waiting for his cheque in this respect.   Wouldn't it be time for Mr Schwarzenegger to at least mention his   collegue actor to finally paying his fair share now? And having   played Robin Hood in Prince of Thieves Costner should know that fair   means the rich should pay a little more.
