There seems to be this very common notion among many of us modern people that science is actually by definition down to earth, common sense, impartial, neutral, anylitical, the sheer opposite of religion, and that all its impressive reasearch will one day tell us all that we need to know.... But in fact, this statement is denying or overlooking the truth that scientists are just human beings who have ideas, views, emotions, passions, and that they are not error-proof. I cannot even remember how many times people have stated to me that something they used in an argument was scientifically proven while it wasn't. Not even the scientists themselves were aware of it. And they're certainly not aware of having become the high priests of a religion called science. I'm not claiming that science is a religion though, and of course it isn't, but some people are however treating it as such. |
