Hall of Shame

Christopher Columbus (1451 - 1506)

Christopher Columbus, mistakenly taken for someone who "discovered America", the ambitious man who was supposed to find another route to India but ended up in the Carribe-ans instead, not even then realizing it was not India, so ob-vioulsy he had never been there. Surely he was seeking fame and such and demanded a lot in reward from his Spanish King and Queen and it was only granted because they thought he would never come back alive. Once noticing how friendly the "Indians" were (Taino and Arrawak tribes) he had something of a nasty thought in his mind and like many Europeans of the past, he was quickly obsessed with gold:

"I was very attentive to them and strove to learn if they had any gold. Seeing some of them with little bits of metal hang-ing from their noses, I gathered from them by signs that by going south and steering round the island in that direction,

there would be found a king who possessed great cups of gold." Yes, that got his attention all right and I guess he thought that "there must be more where that came from".
