When Madero, by many regarded as the legitmate president of Mexico, became president, after Díaz fled the country, it appeard that he wasn't really interested in any land reform like Zapata was, so it was obvious that he betrayed the very cause of the revolution. This brought Zapata to design the Plan of Ayala in which the goals of the Revolution were made perfectly clear and in which Madero was declared a traitor. Pascual Orozco became head of the revolution. Huerta however arrested and executed Madero before Zapata even had a chance to. In his own presidency Huerta was a failure because of his alcoholism but also ruthless, like Diaz, and the Mexican people started to nickname him El Chacal (The Jackal). |
