Dennis Banks (born 1937)

(Ojibwe: Nowacumig)

Dennis Banks, an Anishinabe Ojibwe, is activist, actor, teacher and co-founder of AIM, the American Indian Movement. In 1973 he led the militant Occupation of Wounded Knee in South Dakota. In San Francisco in 1977 he started a benefit event called the Sacred Run Foundation, a charity for athletes to be run-ning for peace. The theme of every Sacred Run is "All Life is Sacred".

And it is not just for humans, it is also for Mother Earth, or the environment if you will. One of them featured the collecting of signatures for the release of Leonard Peltier.
