About playing Indians

  The mocking even took on much serious forms with the introduction of living mascots like   "Chief Illiniwek" (picture above) who performed crazy dances for the University of Illinois. In   2005 the NCAA (National Athletic Collegiate Association) rightfully banned the "chief" because   of its controversy. By and large however, the controversy remains still not understood among   non- Indians and unbelievably as it may sound, there is even an organization who wants to b   ring back the chief called Save the Chief. These people still refuse to see why it is offensive   and are not really listening to the complaints. It is however not for non-Indians to decide as   to what Indians are supposed to see as offensive. I just hope that this will make sense to   the reader.
